~ SciComp 2006 ~

Our new satirical science site goes live in 31 days. And it’s going to be brilliant.

To celebrate, we’ve launched SciComp2006 - a competition to find the best games programmer ever - it could be you!

You could win eternal praise and glory, along with £200 in cool hard cash.

It’s good to keep things simple. So here’s the brief:

Write a game that can easily be played in a web browser.

Base it loosely around a scientific theme.

Competition Rules:

1. Your game must be loosely science-related.
2. Your game should not contain excessive violence, swearing or nudey bits (sorry).
3. It should be simple enough to load rapidly from a website.
4. Extra points are given to games that make me chuckle.
5. The winning entry will receive £200 cash, or the equivalent in a local currency for non-UK citizens.
6. The winning entry and runners up will be showcased on www.null-hypothesis.co.uk as part of its exciting new life.
7. Entries should be submitted to [email protected] by 11.59pm, 21st July 2006. We would prefer it if you send us a URL to a site where your game can be viewed.

Standard Terms and Conditions:

1. The entry of a competition signifies acceptance of these Terms and conditions.
2. You confirm that you are aged 14 or over. Proof of age must be supplied upon request.
3. Competitions are open to residents of all countries. In fact you don’t even have to be from Earth, as long as your game’s good you’re ok by us.
4. Employees of Null Hypothesis, the Journal of Unlikely Science (“The Null”), their immediate families and friends may not enter the competition.
5. No purchase is necessary to enter.
6. No cash alternatives are available.
7. The Null can accept no responsibility for late, lost or undelivered entries.
8. The Null’s decision will be final in all matters relating to the competition and The Null will not enter into any correspondence regarding the competition. So back off.
9. The Null will use all reasonable endeavours to notify the winner(s) within 14 days of the close of the competition. Prizes will be despatched direct by the competition sponsor(s) and should be received within 28 days of receipt of notification.
10. Details of the winner(s) can be obtained from The Null by writing to “Null Hypothesis, the Journal of Unlikely Science”, 95 Woodland Road, Bristol BS8 1TR, enclosing a SAE.
11. Winner(s)' details may be used in reasonable promotional activities relating to the competition, subject to prior notification by The Null.
12. All other data will be used in accordance with our privacy policy.
13. Entries, or a link to the entries, should be emailed to Mark Steer at [email protected]
14. No entries will be accepted after bedtime on 21st July 2006. Bedtime being the European regulation of 11.59pm.
15. These Terms and conditions shall be governed by the laws of England. All disputes arising from or in connection with these Terms and conditions shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts (law courts, not tennis).
16. All entries, and copyright for all entries, to SciComp 2006 will become the possessions of The Null. We will be free to publish them on www.null-hypothesis.co.uk as we wish. All authors will be given full credits on www.null-hypothesis.co.uk.
17. In the event that third-party website wishes to host a particular game The Null will do our utmost to contact the original author for permission. However, in the event that the author is unobtainable we reserve the right to grant permission to third parties as we see fit.
18. If you plagiarise, copy or in any way defame/annoy/bullyrag anyone, don't expect us to stick up for you. It's your fault.
