Two Pee, or not Two Pee

Two Pee, or not Two Pee

By Steve Robinson

Many men complain of genitalia-related problems. Some have a low sperm count; others are impotent. And a few, it seems, have an extra penis. Such was the discovery of an Indian surgery this week.

A 24 year-old admitted himself to a New Delhi hospital after complaining that the extra phallus was interfering with his sex life. Soon to be married, the unidentified man wished to have the penis removed so he could lead a more normal life. Surgery was expected to be difficult, said the surgeon charged with the operation, on account of the need to maintain a blood supply to the retained penis in order for it to function normally.

Diphallus - or penile duplication - is an extremely rare condition, with fewer than 100 cases reported globally. Most cases involve a rudimentary organ alongside a fully functioning penis, caused by an embryological defect. This case appears even more unusual, however, since the man from Uttar Pradesh - a northern state - had two perfectly functioning penises. Now there's a sentence I never thought I'd write.
