A new brand of purple space potatoes – the Purple Orchid 3 – are all the rage in China.
The new product is the result of plants grown from seeds taken into space. Miles above us in the great beyond, they were mutated by radiation, capsule pressure and weightlessness.
Haitou Purple Orchid Co., the corporation responsible, is marketing the bizarre food as a unique treat.
Sceptics have been quick to point out that the same freakish veg could have been produced on a laboratory; they still have the novelty of being purple though.
