Guys Gaze At Frisky Faces

Guys Gaze At Frisky Faces

By Helen Potter

Gentlemen, it appears that you have been maligned. Apparently when confronted with a naked woman you are more likely to look at her face first before checking out the rest of her.

Researchers at Emory University used hi-tech eye tracking devices to measure where the gazes of 15 men and 30 women landed on pictures of couples having sex and how long they lingered.

"... women can tell if a naked man is aroused just by looking ..."
They found that men looked at the face first while women who were not on hormonal birth control pills focused on areas normally covered by clothing. Women who were on the pill focused on background details such as jewellery.

These findings are not so far-fetched when considered in a scientific light, according to Emory psychologist Kim Wallen. He and his former graduate student Heather Rupp postulate that men's increased attention to faces is due to activity of the amygdala, an area of the brain that deals with emotional information and excitement.

The simple fact is that women can tell if a naked man is aroused just by looking, while the men have to search for more subtle clues.

"It's cryptic, but facial expression is one way of showing an indication of interest in and enjoyment of sex," said Wallen.

There you go guys - you really were looking at her face.
