Spoof or Troof?
Most of us lie around 4,000 times a day. "That can't be true!" I hear you cry. Well, no. It's not. But can you tell which of these are blatant lies and which are unbelievable truths? Spoof or Troof is brought to you by Colin My-Pants-Are-On-Fire Lichen.
1: Vultures sometimes eat so much they can't take off again. Whilst incapacitated in this way it has been known for other Vultures to attack and eat them, leaving themselves similarly incapacitated; and so on.
2: Some ancient Egyptians worshipped a star-covered, naked woman called ‘Nut’. Her followers were referred to as ‘Nutters’. It is from this that we get the modern reference to persons behaving oddly.
3: Under various pieces of UK legislation electricity is defined as a ‘noxious substance’. You can be fined or imprisoned for possessing it.
4: 1000s of people travel through time each day. Forwards as well as backwards.
5: A ‘Jiffy’ is an actual measurement of time. It can mean (variously) 0.01 seconds. The time it takes light to travel around the radius of a standard-sized, padded mailing envelope. Or the time it takes light to travel one fermi.
Incidentally, a ‘Jiffy Bag’ was, originally, a term of derision used by Californian factory workers to describe the street-walkers who frequented the Jiffy Manufacturing Co. factory area in large numbers on paydays.
