If you find your kids/nephews/mums have been internet chatting with some weirdo named George – don’t panic. He’s not a real perv …. just a virtual one. Well, maybe that’s a bit unfair; he’s a highly developed avatar created using the most groundbreaking artificial intelligence.
Created by Rollo Carpenter, the British programmer at Jabberwacky AI, George’s revolutionary learning programme is ‘open-ended’. This means he formulates all of his verbal replies, body language and facial expressions from those he receives in conversations he has in chatrooms world-wide, and he has had millions. Since he talks to people the world over George now speaks 40 languages, understands the finer points of world music and even understands the german sense of humour.
Like I said, no need to panic then. The most intellectually-stimulating, cultured, amusing, sensitive and natural people on the planet spend most of their time in chatrooms - so he’s learning from the best.
