Botox For Your Bladder
By Anne Pawsey
The frozen-faced film star’s favourite beauty treatment, Botox, has been shown to have a genuine medical use. Unfortunately it’s not very Hollywood.
Researchers at Sheffield Hallam University have described Botox as a “major advance” in the treatment of incontinence. Yep that’s right having toxic bacteria injected into your nether regions is an ideal treatment for “an over-active bladder”.
Unpleasant as the treatment sounds it is proving very effective with 80% of users reporting an improvement with their problem. The treatment is more effective than drugs and, perhaps unbelievably, less painful than surgery. It is also much more pleasant than an untreated problem.
The researchers don’t mention if the appearance of the bladder is improved.
