Get Old, Get Happy
By Claire Chmarny
What are the first things that spring to mind when you think about growing old? The grey hair? The wrinkles? They're usually depressing thoughts. But don’t let them get you down. New research shows old people are just as happy as young people. The study, carried out by researchers at Queen's University in Belfast, has shown that young people associate getting older with growing more miserable. They also seem to think they need to ‘live it up’ now, while they are young, because they won’t be able to do so when they get older. Hence Wetherspoons on a Friday night.

Dr John Garry, who led the study, believes that young people need to think instead about the damaging effects of alcohol and smoking. He claims young men, in particular, give very little thought to the state of their health. "It seems that these young men abuse their bodies through alcohol because, as they see it, there is little point in preserving their health for a miserable old age."
Archie and Margaret Lindsay, who last week celebrated their 44th Valentine’s Day together, say they are perfectly happy in their old age. Mr Lindsay said, “My wife and I are both in our seventies and are as happy now as we were thirty years ago. It’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years!

Re: the lady in the picture:
She's a great great grandma and a wonderful lady. She's still very active at the age of 96! She goes for regular walks and swims and has a stunning sense of humor. She doesn't know a thing about computers or the internet but loves it when we tell her that her image has been used.

Well that's one happy granny. Any more for any more?
