Peculiar Periodicals

It turns out there are even more unlikely publications than The Journal of Unlikely Science.
Every Thursday, our very own Dr Steer turns his attention to another weird science journal.

This week: ANNUAL REVIEW OF CRIMINAL PROCEDURE

Name – It sounds like all the thieves, miscreants and ne'er-do-wells have got together to discuss which mugging techniques were particularly successful in '07 and how they're going to further the art of robbing folk blind in the coming year. Makes me want to read it.
Click to enlarge Front cover – Whilst I wasn't expecting a watercolour of a masked bandit making off with a bag of swag, a bit of effort wouldn't have gone amiss. It's the problem I often find with law - not many pictures. Or jokes.
Off-the-wallness – Annoyingly it turns out that this isn't a handbook for practising pilferers, but a rundown of what's been going on in the US legal world over the last year. Shame.
Usefulness – If you're an American lawyer it's likely to be essential.
Impressiveness – It's big and bulky, hard bound and about as readable as a Hungarian guide to string theory. That's what I'm talking about!
             -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall They used their friendly-sounding title to lure us unsuspectingly in, before hitting us with hard legal jargon. It's time to peg it before they write up the bill.

Impact factor: Like the cell door swinging shut in your face.
