Peculiar Periodicals

It turns out there are even more unlikely publications than The Journal of Unlikely Science.
Every Thursday, our very own Dr Steer turns his attention to another improbable periodical.

This week: THE EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF PAIN

Name – Oh Eureka! Who could possibly stand idly by when the latest issue of the Journal of Pain is delivered to the library? It has the power to shock, yet tantalises you with the promise of Frenchmen getting hurt.
Click to enlarge Front cover – Come on, it's a very smart cover but where's the imagination? The gore? The indescribable suffering? We need to be inspired to help our wounded neighbours, not pretend we're at the Good Home Show.
Off-the-wallness – Having done a Ph.D. I have to say that I'm not very surprised that there are people making a living out of watching others suffer. My supervisor made a habit out of it.
Usefulness – Although it sounds like a must for any would-be Bond villain it's sadly lacking in tips for top torture. But, to be fair, the research published here might help me when I'm hurting - and that's good enough for me.
Impressiveness – The first article I found was "Botulinum toxin A for myofascial trigger point injection". Toxin. Trigger. Point. Injection. Wallop, wallop, wallop, wallop. No messing. You cannot lose. Top marks.

Overall A mouth-watering prospect of a periodical.

Impact factor: Imagine being hit by a highly caffeinated camel on the charge. You're beginning to get close.

More journal jocularity to come next Thursday.  Until then why not find a phunny phobia?
