Peculiar Periodicals
It turns out there are even more unlikely publications than The Journal of Unlikely Science. Every Thursday, our very own Dr Steer turns his attention to another weird science journal.
This week: TEACHING EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN PLUS
| Name – Teaching Exceptional Children Plus... Plus what? The suspense is killing me, what else are we teaching? Extraordinary pets? Phenomenal fish? Prodigious cacti? Now I have to read more. Clever title. | ![]() |
Front cover – It's an electronic journal so no front cover. The logo's alright, I'm always pleased by concentric circles, but there's not much in the way of pizzazz. |

| Off-the-wallness – The first article of the current issue: "Portraits of Individuals with Disabilities in Star Trek". I bow my head in awe. | ![]() |
| Usefulness – It turns out that the journal's concerned with getting the best out of kids who've got learning difficulties - a worthy cause indeed. Also seems to give teachers the license to take troublesome nippers and stick them in front of Star Trek all day. Nice. | ![]() |
| Impressiveness – You've battled kids with ADHD, fought intellectual disability and been there to help teachers achieve the best for their pupils and what have you published? A guide to getting children to stop biting their fingernails. Oh dear. | ![]() |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | |
| Overall – A strong showing from the exceptional children, only tarnished by the complete lack of any clever cacti. | ![]() |
