Peculiar Periodicals

It turns out there are even more unlikely publications than The Journal of Unlikely Science.
Every Thursday, our very own Dr Steer turns his attention to another improbable periodical.

This week: MORTALITY

Name – Blimey - there's some finality about that eh? "Someday you're going to die, don't you forget it" it screams across the library corridors at you. Brrrrr, I wouldn't want it hanging around.
Click to enlarge Front cover – Sweet Jesus, put a top hat on it and it could be an undertaker. It would appear mysteriously from darkened corners to tell you about the latest advances in the ways of Death.
Off-the-wallness – Not so much off the wall as on the slab, stone cold and ready for dissection. Their strapline is: "Promoting the interdisciplinary study of death and dying". Sickos.
Usefulness – I half expected to see 'Mark Steer R.I.P. 1979-2056' inscribed inside the front cover but no such luck - they've only given me 'til next year. On the plus side, one of the articles claims to have a new geography of death, sinners going up and saints down I assume. Maybe eternity won't be so bad after all.
Impressiveness – I don't know whether it's impressive or just creepy. But then again maybe mortality researchers live for the moment, taking chances on the edge. Living fast, dying young and sticking two fingers up at the mainstream. Well, it's a nice thought.
             -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall It just creeps in the 20s score-wise and it's been creeping me out all morning.

Impact factor: One strike and you're out my friend. Down to the pearly gates you go.

More journal jocularity to come next Thursday.  Until then why not find a phunny phobia?
