World in Brief... World in Brief...

All over the world there are crazy things afoot. Things that'll make you
either cry with laughter or shake your head in despair. Here's a selection from the last few days:

  • Is it a bird? is it a plane? No it's a hybrid. For the last seven years our friends at NASA have been funding the development of a futuristic concept plane. No turbines and no propellers but wings that do indeed flap - the mind boggles.

  • In a similar flying vein - a goose named Godzilla has flown from Scotland to Norway in just eight hours at an average speed of 60mph. He was obviously in a hurry to find a mate.

  • Robotic caterpillars are being trialled to administer drugs to the heart using minimal invasive surgery. The 20mm robots cling on to the heart surface using suckers - maybe I've just watched too many scary sci-fi films but it sounds pretty invasive to me.
