Peculiar Periodicals

It turns out there are even more unlikely publications than The Journal of Unlikely Science.
Every Thursday, our very own Dr Steer turns his attention to another improbable periodical.

This week: THE FLORIDA BUGGIST

Name – Are these people trying to get bullied? Buggist? What's that supposed to mean? It sounds like someone you'd find rooting through your bins looking for slugs to prey on. Have some respect!
Click to enlarge Front cover – A map of Florida. Oh well done. I suppose it shows all of the places they've rooted around and eaten slugs. Just because the journal ceased to be in 1920 doesn't mean you can skimp on the cover
Off-the-wallness – This is so far off the wall it's probably next door by now. One paper is called 'Mosquitoes Found about Gainesville, Fla. Part II' - if there are so many mosqitoes that they need a sequel, surely everyone should leave Gainesville, Fla.
Usefulness – If you'll permit me to refer back to the mosquitoes of Gainesville (which form the bulk of the last three issues) - mildly useful if you live in Gainesville and want to know who's nicked your blood. No bally use to anyone else at all.
Impressiveness – Impressive? No. Sorry, but no.
             -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall The Florida Buggist only managed three volumes before it folded. Is it any wonder?

Impact factor: A very weak waft.

More journal jocularity to come next Thursday.  Until then why not find a phunny phobia?
